Dear IKP colleagues,
The GDC 2026 breakout in Geneva on 3 September 2026 (17:00–17:50) is now on the BGIN website as a meeting report, with the session slides. The record is written under the Chatham House Rule for floor interventions: information may be used; other participants are not identified. Programme speakers were Mitchell Travers (BGIN), Adam (Google Quantum AI), Shin’ichiro Matsuo (BGIN), and Conor (Project 11).
The 50-minute session held resource estimates and migration design in one room. NIST primitives already exist. The DLT gap is how to stage a hybrid then a cutover when every node must agree on validity rules, how to keep verifying old signatures, how not to strand dormant funds, and how to tell a genuine PQ-ready stack from a screenshot. It built on the PQC Migration workstream and a Japan-hosted internationally open prize on applying NIST schemes to blockchain networks — not inventing a new primitive.

What the room actually used
- Qubit count and a single Q-day date are the wrong monitors. Error correction, interconnects, compiler progress, and a small near-term probability tail already justify starting now.
- Attack classes differ: in-flight versus at-rest versus parameter/exploit-manufacture. Contagion into traditional finance via stablecoins was named.
- Crypto agility is the design objective: hybrid then cutover; do not freeze a one-time elliptic-curve-to-ML-DSA rewrite. AI cryptanalysis is already a forcing function.
- A Japan-hosted prize will score migration methods on Bitcoin and Ethereum (security plus efficiency), with 2026 definition work, an SSR-adjacent workshop in December, and Block 15 to stand up evaluation. Winner path: BGIN standard then ISO.
